HEALTH---nutritious value of COCONUT.

COCONUT is a very old plant, believed to have evolved more than 15 million years ago. Plant fossils dating back to that age have been found. The plant evolved in Papua New Guinea and the nut was carried to the far-flung shores of South East Asia , and became part of the land-scape long before it was inhabited.

COCONUT is highly nutritious. The fleshy part is used as a tonic for the people of poor health. Fresh coconut and the fleshy part contain huge amounts of Potassium, phosphorous, Iron, magnesium and zinc. It is very high in FIBRE content. Its a coolant and is treated in fevers, urinary disorders, and to purify blood. It is also good for acidity and nausea . The milky pulp of a green coconut is recommended for people suffering from malnutrition and general debility. It is also used in dehydration. The pulp of the nut acts like a laxative and is used to expel tapeworms.

But it is high in saturated fats which can lead to heart problems. Avoid cooking meat in as it will add to the saturated fat content of the dish.
